Abbey Island at Sunset

Abbey Island is an often photographed feature at Ruby Beach on the coast of the Olympic Peninsula. I have been there many times and have never seen the place look quite the same way twice (unless it was raining).

This was an evening without a lot of colors at the end of the sunset but it did offer up some moments worthy of a capture:

Really nice pastels, Alan. One nit: the log (maybe one of your favorite things?) catching the light really pulls my eye there rather than just balancing out the ULC brightness.

Hi Alan,

Fiery skies don't necessarily give a mood to a place. I think the mood you captured here really speaks to what coastal Washington is like. I agree with Monika on the log (darken or desaturate?). I also wish you were a tiny bit higher to get separation for theforeground rock on the left. But those are both nits on a stunningly framed image.

I like the mysterious prehistoric look in this image.

I love the mood but there is too much foreground that lacks interest such as reflections from wet sand. Cropping the log was good, now maybe some off the bottom?

Whoa! I didn't mean for you to make the log virtually invisible! On the original, it isn't nearly as bright when viewed on my laptop as on my desktop. Are you happy with the edit?
It didn't look quite so close to obliteration in the larger version after the edit but it certainly does as posted. I might tweak that one to bring a bit of it back. It was a bit too bright for my intent with the comp all along in the RAW image but hitting it with a desaturated brush was a bit much.

Hey Alan,

Very nice! That fog layer really created some nice mood here. I like your edit better then the original, that log caught my eye also in the original.
