Along Sycamore Canyon Road

This image was recorded right after sunset. The pink flowers are kind of interesting in that they are totally closed during the daylight hour. As soon as the sun gets low and just below the horizon they open. The reason for this is that they are pollinated by a specific moth that only comes out after sunset. Doug Sherman may know the name of these flowers and the moth. There is also a white variety of this flower.

I am highly curious as to what this flower is (paging Doug to the white courtesy phone). Fascinating behavior. Makes an interesting shot.

Wow, these are really great Tom! What cool flowers and what a cool setting to shoot them in. Those clouds in #1 are totally awesome!

Tom,
Did you shoot these recently? I was down Sycamore Canyon road and missed them. I use to know their name but forgot in my old age.

These two pics were taken a few years ago. I was with Fred P. Some years in the spring there are huge patches of flowers out there....very low growing and carpet like. One year blue ones showed up. One of these years we will find Doug S. crawling around in them.

Beautiful images, Tom. The name of the flower is Stock. Its scent also increases during the evening and night hours to help attract pollinating moths. I don't know the name of the moth. It can only be found in AZ and UT in North America.
