American Fork Fall

Hey Ben,

What a very cool scene to be able to shoot on your way back home. I like the creek/river with the fall colors. I think I would crop some though. I would crop from the right side and the bottom, to just at the point on the right where you lose that water on the right edge. My thought is cropping to that thin dark vertical crack along the big rock, leaving those trees behind the middle of the big rock intact. That will also allow from the bottom side to lose those 2 rocks along the bottom towards the left.

It looks like part of your thought process was to keep that large rock intact in your composition and I would have tried the same thing, but for my by keeping the rock intact, you add what is a distracting body of water in the lower right.

Hey Ben,

The edit is a much stronger image! I really like that crop. If it was possible I would have left just a little but of clear water under where the white water is spreading out on the bottom. Or at least, I would try a crop showing that, you might have to lose a bit off the top to keep the same format crop.

Yes, I also like that clear water. I could crop differently, or clone some off the right corner. I did not like cutting that lower right rock as much either. How is the processing here? Now that i see it online it seems a bit over saturated, and I already cut sat about 20%/

Really nice scene, and I do agree with the crop suggestion. It helps focus more on the better color too.

I don't have any problem with the processing/saturation. I might be tempted to cool the WB a touch but that's just been my taste lately.

Thanks for the reply Kyle, much appreciated. I have not printed this yet, so I am still playing with crops.

I'm going to be contrarian here and say I like the original better. Bottom feels chopped off with the crop. jmho :)
Lovely color and light regardless.
