Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve - Part 2

This is after the sun popped up and really helping the 360 degree wildflower color go nuclear in intensity in Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve in California the other day.

As a reminder the wind was blowing and it had been totally overcast for most of the day.

One of these is my clear favorite, the other I like a lot.

Two more winners Jim. Where in Antelope Valley is this preserve? I suspect it was made into a preserve after I left So Cal/

Neat pair of images. I like them both but tend to favor the first one. The simple topography and the interesting patterns in the clouds make that one a stronger composition for me.

When did you go Jim? I was there on Saturday. Did you go to Carrizo Plains? That was my main trip and Antelope was only another 1.5 hrs away...

This is like 30 miles north of Lancaster, it's kind of just in the middle of all of the hills. I don't recall when this came about, but I do think this would have been set aside after you had left. It's a pretty low key preserve. It get's world wide attention for a month, and then for the other 11 months it disappears. It's a very cool place though and just less then 2 hours from my house.

Thanks Alan! Yeah, the clouds in #1 definitely are stronger. They both have their strengths, and I appreciated hearing your choices and why.

Hey Johnny, I was at Antelope Valley on Friday. How were the Poppies when you were there, were they opened? Were you able to get into the Parking Lot or did you have to park alongside the road?

I was at Carrizo Plains on Sunday, a little after 4pm I think. I had gotten held up in Shell Creek for about 3 hours, so I didn't get as much time as I wanted in Carrizo, but I still came away with some shots I really liked.

I was at Carrizo Plains on Sunday, a little after 4pm I think. I had gotten held up in Shell Creek for about 3 hours, so I didn't get as much time as I wanted in Carrizo, but I still came away with some shots I really liked.

They were mostly opened. I arrived in the afternoon. I think if you arrive in the morning, the are still closed
