Appearances can be Deceptive

This old looking set of buildings has the appearance of something right out of the 1800's but is in fact younger than some of the photographers on this forum (self included). I had to make this a B&W to disguise the age of the wood used to make these structures since they lack the serious patina that comes with 100 years of exposure to the elements.

This is part of the cinema set for the TV series Gunsmoke near the mouth of Johnson Canyon just east of Kanab Utah.

The Gunsmoke TV series started up in 1955 so the buildings are 65 years old while meant to replicate the look of the 1880's. They do still qualify as antique structures since the American Antiquities Act designates anything more than 50 years old as antiquities. These buildings weren't constructed to last since they were simply props.

This is a really cool photo. Your B&W treatment works so well and places the focus on all those interesting textures and angles of the structure. I like the big plant in the middle that has apparently grown on top of a wooden platform, it adds to the abandoned/rundown feeling.

I wonder if the landowner got tired of people (like me) tromping around the fence lines taking pictures..... There were quite a few "profoundly unwelcome" signs around the property.
