Astoria - the View From Washington

This is a view of Astoria and the Meglar Bridge as seen from the Washington banks of the Columbia River. I often takes the roads on the Washington side that follow the river back to Longview just as a scenic side trip instead of the slightly faster US 30 route on the Oregon side. This is from an October trip I took out to Fort Stevens near Warrenton. A new addition to the local economy in recent years comes from cruise ships using Astoria as a stopover. Quite a few ships pass through nowadays so if you are planning on shopping in Astoria is pays to be aware of when the ships are scheduled to be there as the crowds that disembark can be notable in a small town like this.

Thanks - yes click through is needed - as a crow flies Astoria is actually 4.3 miles away from where I took this shot.
