A sandhill crane n your backyard? People get excited when these guys come through our bird refuges and make special trips to see them.

Well, I haven't seen for a week or longer. There are a couple pairs here in Moab. They decided on my backyard so they could wake me up every morning at 5:00 am... It might have something to do with this giant mulberry tree too that kept dropping fruit.... That attracted everything except a mountain lion (I think).
I know what you mean about making special trips. In the spring I would go over to Cedaredge Colorado and a little place called Fruit Grower's Reservoir because they land there during migration. That's about 200 miles. I see some out by Cisco on the Colorado River, but getting a good picture is extremely difficult.

That is really cool to have one of these in your back yard, Craig.
I have also seen than at the Dinosaur monument. I can hear them along a local river, but the land is fenced and they are usaully out of sight.
