Balloons away + Plus More

Thanks so much Alan!
Another image showing intensity of the balloon workers amongst an enthralled crowd. This is one aspect of the Fiesta that amazes me, how close the crowd can get to the balloons. You can literally reach out and touch the fabric as they inflate.

Hey Doug! These are so awesome! Love them all, and love the reminder. I am supposed to be in Minnesota but am currently driving to Las Cruces to help one of the grandkids. I could end up driving through Albuquerque, so maybe I should swing by the Balloon Fiesta. It wasn't in my plans but I am going to try and squeeze it in. Is it still really good during the weekdays? Sat and Sun look to be the best, but I am guessing it's still pretty cool during the week?

One more question Doug, looking on their website but I don't see anything about tripods. Are they allowed?

Thanks Craig AND you're right! I do love this event and getting out with camera. This is the first time I didn't carry two cameras, a standard visible and the IR. Decided to only take the IR.

Thanks Jim,! I hope you can get there BUT beware that crowds are getting thicker and thicker with each passing year. Maybe it was so crowded from being the 50th but I'm doubting this had much to do with it. It is just becoming more and more known and it is so incredible seeing so many balloons and all the activity. We've been leaving my house in SantaFe for years at 3:30 am with getting to the park at 4:30 with no problem but this year we didn't get to park until 5:30. We barely made it in. Those just behind us were waved off and told all lots were filled.. And yes, you can bring a tripod. There are those that setup and have their camera mounted but I don't advise. Just way too many with moving crowds that I'd fear the camera being tousled and likely knocked over and you are stationary and not able to move around for new dynamic shots of the action. I recommend forgoing the tripod and push the ISO even though noise increases.

On this discussion, it is funny how when first going, everyone, including little ones were carrying cameras but now, there are very few with cameras. It's almost all cell phones now. But have to admit, cell phones are giving some nice images. My wife used hers and got some great images.

Oh and yes ... the event will be good, unless weather, all the way through to the last day, Sunday the 9th.

Thanks for the info Doug, that's very helpful.

My thought for the tripod was only to use for my GoPro on it to capture video while I shot still images. I did see by your photos how crowded it was, so even while asking to know my options it looks way to crowded to try and use a tripod. I might go in with one of my lighter ones on my backpack so that if it's not as crowded during the week I could use it just in case.

It looks like there is a North and a South parking lot. Which do you prefer?

Hmm .... I don't know about this north and south? I'll have to look into this more. However, I don't believe there is any choice. When you get to Balloon Fiesta Parkway, or as you get close to it, you are directed by a zillion attendants of where they send you.

Love how these turned out in IR Doug! I like the additional ones, and especially this last one with fire being seen. That's an incredible and powerful image.

I am not going to make it there after all. I spent too many days down in Carlsbad and then in Roswell. Now the weather just doesn't look conducive. Plus... I need to get back to California so I can race up to Minnesota to capture fall colors up there. I am a week behind schedule now.

Thanks Jim. That's a bummer on making the Balloon Fiesta but understandable and it sure has been unusually rainy for this time of year. Hope you make it in time for the colors in Minnesota.
