Bear

Was up fishing in AK last August on a float trip down a coastal river near Bethel. The first morning on the river this bear moseyed down the river on the opposite side of our camp. He payed us no mind. I took some liberties with the picture as it was quite foggy that morning.

Two nights later we had another bear come into camp and rip up the fly on one of our tents and put a hole in one of our rafts at 3 a.m. No one was hurt, but the adrenaline was running.

That's a cool shot! That's great it was just minor damage. I would have thought that camping in bear country there would be some kind of perimeter warning or alarm if a bear came in?

Yes, I always look forward to them. Last year we ended up seeing six along the river. That's more than we usually see on the rivers up there. The bears don't really like to be around people and usually head for streamside foliage when people are near.. We ran into a couple of rangers a couple of days after our encounter with the bear that came into camp, they agreed that the situation was unusual and was probably a young bear.
