Blood Moon

My first try, I think it came out pretty good. Settings were Nikon D7000 ISO 3200 f8 1/3 second at 300 mm. So much noise. In post I just brought up the blacks & the shadows & added a smidge of clarity. I lost so much detail when trying to remove noise so I left it alone. Please let me know what other settings I should have tried. I did do some at ISO 1600 f8 1/5 second & still noisy LOL. Also I had no clue what forum this should go in

Yours worked out better than mine.

I forgot to check to see whether image stabilization was turned on for my 100-400mm lens since I rarely ever use it without a tripod and it introduced motion into my shots. I couldn't see this while chimping the shots on the camera LCD but noticed it immediately when I dumped my SD card onto my laptop. I ran back outside to reshoot the moon but there were low clouds that obscured me getting a do-over

I forgot too and turned it off. This was also the first time I used mirror up so a good experience all around :)

That looks great Darcy! I like the look of this, and it sounds like it was a great all around experience for you. I just got home from the beach, so I still need to edit some of mine, I think I had some turn out nice.

BTW, I moved this thread to the Landscape forum as it isn't an abstract or macro. The moon is a bit too big for that. :)

LOL.... good try my friend! An example of still life is shooting a small table that has flowers on it, or a steaming pot of tea, etc. The moon even if it looks still, is not considered still life.... o_O

@Alan: Well crap! Didn't even enter my mind until you said this! I'm sure I did the same thing since I don't use this lens often on tripod and my usual tripod lens, the 24-70, doesn't have VR. Sigh, it's tough getting old!... Mike
