Anymore I just yank out my iPhone when I first get to the scene for a quick preview of what the sensors can see. They can do some amazing things these days.
This is from the next morning on the same beach with an iPhone 13 Pro before I had set up my DSLR yet:

I never even came close to shooting as many images as I do now when I was still using film. I tried yanking out a roll of Velvia I still had on a trip in 2010 and after shooting a few shots at the South Rim at GC was thoroughly annoyed that I couldn't chimp the shots to see what I got. I had also taken gobs of DSLR images and decided I didn't care what was on the film. That old EOS Elan is sitting on a shelf with the rest of that roll of film still loaded. I like being in charge of my own processing.
