Blue Valley Twilight

Looking down upon the Blue Valley from Skyline Overlook in Utah with Ben a few weeks ago. @ckcarr Craig had just left Ben and I to our own devices, so it was a bit of twilight shooting while waiting for the Milky Way to make her appearance. The valley area I ended up warming up so much, it's not funny. With normal processing the valley was just about as blue as the sky. Which looks a little unusual, but it's what's down there. I did warm it up as I said a whole lot so that it kind of balanced better.

Hard to judge your edits without seeing the original white balance, except to say that I really like this result, so I'm going to assume it is an improvement over the original. This is a really great location - will have to get more details on where it is (if Ben is sharing that info) next time I get out to UT.

I like the result - and like Mike can only take your word for what had to be tweaked to get here

Do you have a setting moon in this scene? The stars are quite bright and the skies are dark relative to the light on the clouds.

Thanks Mike! Just imagine the ground being as blue as the sky.

Do you have a setting moon in this scene? The stars are quite bright and the skies are dark relative to the light on the clouds.

We had no moon, that’s what increased the difficulty when shooting the Milky Way.

It’s probably just the light from the sun still bouncing around in the upper atmosphere?

As to the blue in the valley, Ben is probably the best judge of it.

Fantastic shot Jim. And yes, that valley is blue, or red or orange. It is like a sky mirror and reflects whatever color the sky happens to be. Any enhancement in Photoshop quickly gets it way blue. After 4 or more visits and much processing, I have a hard time with getting it believable. This one is very believable.

Thank you Ben. It's a fun place to shoot, and can really make for some cool colors. Sunny is there right now shooting, so it will be interesting to see what he comes back with.
