Both Sides of the Milky Way

Can you spot the North Star, Polaris?

By aiming North you can see both the backside of the Milky Way (early in the Timelapse) and then the frontside we are used to seeing, later in the Timelapse.

Taken at Artists Palette in Death Valley National Park in April.

Nikon D810 with 14-24mm f2.8 @14mm

PS. It was a new moon, so the ground got very dark.

Neat TL Jim, you did a good job of aiming at the north star. I put my cursor on it and it never moved.

Your perspective is very well chosen. You could use this as an educational video for star movement!

Thank you Tim!

I enjoy the view to the North. I know it doesn’t get appreciated as much today because it seems like if the night time shot or Timelapse doesn’t contain the Milky Way core, it’s just not really that good. But to me, I sometimes find the view to the North equally if not more interesting. Since I run multiple cameras, I try to always have one pointed north.
