Bugs of Bulgaria

Whilst on a birding trip to Bulgaria I managed to get a few shots of some interesting insects. We were there for 7 days and traveled about most of the country, so not long at each location and generally walking around looking for specific birds. I don't use a tripod so these are either with a monopod or hand held. Not the best as I was using a 500mm lens with a 1.4 extender most of the time, but still different from my usual subjects.

Cream-Spot Tiger, Arctia villica

Black-tailed Skimmer, Orthetrum cancellatum

I like this bug collection - neat looking specimens. These are pretty amazing results for hand held/monopod with 700mm worth of telephoto.

Hey Kevin, what great work with these bugs! A 500mm with an extender makes for an uneasy combo for bugs I think, but you really got some awesome images!

Really nice series. They probably would have flown away if you had tried to set up a tripod!

Thanks Jim, I've actually got used to using the 500L and don't generally have a problem with hand holding. Adding the extension does make it a lot harder.

All so beautiful the last 3 are my favorite.
Thank you Alisa

Thank you Monika, same as what happens with birds 😁
