A rather inelegant name for this petite bloom. I went back to where I had seen them last year. Somehow not nearly exciting as when I first found them, though they are always a delight.
This shows one grouping. There was another, a bit more scattered just maybe 2' away, then pairs scattered in the forest a bit further down the road. The mosquitos got to nibble at me (or so I thought until I examined my back that evening and found it covered in welts) as I was shooting. The pine needles give you an idea of scale.
And this one, emerging from the shadows of the forest looked kind of like the mother ship coming for her lilliputian passengers. I would have liked to be able to shoot straight up into the flower, but I would have had to dig a ditch.
