candle Smoke

I saw pixelation in the blacks from Flikr and I tried to correct it. Funny though on my computer files looks fine.
Yup - looks fine now and I must have caught it while you were fixing it.

I like the effect - the lighting/color differentials in the smoke wisps are fun. Soooo - how did you do this? Inquiring minds want to know :D

Thanks Alan. It's pretty basic product low key photography. I used a black board behind and under the candle. Then I used a triggered flash off to the right side with a rigged wannabe snoot. ( used an advertisment card from the mail and a paper clip). Blow out the candle and shoot. In light room after all the tone adjustments I used the brush tool to paint in the colors in the smoke.

Hey Joe, these are very cool!!!

As far as tutorials go, if you wanted to write something up on how to shoot that, we could add it to our tutorial section. :)

Thank you Jim . if you have not noticed my writting and typing skills are extreemly poor, but I do take that as a compliment. If you want I can post the youtube videos I used to get a good base of the information on it.
