Celebrating Retirement!

That's right! This is my first week as retired from my corporate job . . . from any job! So, my wife and I celebrated with a quick trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. You may remember @JimFox treated us to photos and videos from this area. First up from me are several images showing the different moods of Splitrock Lighthouse and iconic location on Lake Superior. This series was shot in two visits, Sunday afternoon followed by Monday morning.

Welcome to a new chapter of life - checking your watch for what day it is 😁

I like your series on the lighthouse area - a stark reminder that not everyone is experiencing spring yet......

I love the dark cloud mood in the last shot.

Thank you Oliver! That blue hour shot was taken just after 5am. I was hoping for a break in the clouds and a shot at the milky way but mother nature did not cooperate.

Congrats Bob!!!!

Retirement is really awesome! I took a ding on my retirement to retire early, and it was worth every lost cent.

I am on my 3rd night in a row of staying up all night to shoot the Milky Way. So…
Sunday - Death Valley
Monday - Mono Lake
Tuesday (today) - Alabama Hills

I say that because I loved your photos, and I will take more time after all my cameras are firing to stop and look more closer at them.

Thank all, especially for my retirement and encouraging words or enjoyment! I'm looking forward to traveling and of course, photography. I bet this group will be a great source of information as we plan to go places!

In a few months you will look back and wonder how you managed to fit a full time job into your life. Lovely images especially the blue hour one. Ken

Hey Bob, I had no reception last night, so I went over these this morning now.

I love that different view (for me) of Split Rock in #1. My favorite I think is the last one. Love the mood and look to it. Each of the middle 3 are awesome too! You really scored. Great creativity on your part.

I think I might try to get up there next winter to capture it with snow and ice, I think that could be super cool.

What’s your next trip? I haven’t posted it yet, but a bunch of us are meeting the first week in May to photograph Shiprock and also Bisti Badlands. You should come meet up.

Damn, I would love to join in but my wife is having hip replacement surgery in early May. She might not appreciate me running out. Keep me posted i the future, for sure! Next trip, my wife and I are doing 5 days hiking in Utah national parks through Backroads. It's not really a photography trip and I doubt I'll be able to get in the parks sunrise/sunset/astro but it will give us a sense of the parks for a return trip sometime. I think the hikes are in Arches and Canyonlands.
