A more intimate view of heavy storm surf along the Oregon coast near Arch Rock. I switched to my 100-400mm lens for a few close in shots of the pour off on the rocks just before a heavy squall chased me off of the trail.

My inspiration for this type of pour off shot is the work of George Lepp who has been shooting scenes like this for as long as I have been working with digital photography. Glad I finally gave my Vari-ND a workout along the coast. I used to only use it for waterfalls and until this last trip hadn't taken it out of my bag for years.

Really nice! I see a tighter composition down into the pour off, loosing the background rocks and converting to b&w.

Wow, Alan I REALLY like this! The shutter speed treatment is just right for me - it almost looks like a huge animal with long white fur along its back rising out of the surf! Great image - one of my favorites from you!
