Colorado Color

The drive down from Silverton to Durango is a pretty one, especially in the fall. The highway at spots is totally decorated with fall colors. I will often pull over and stop and shot right there from the highway as the road gives a definite edge to the forest and it's easier to peer into it. In this particular section it was the reds that grabbed me.

Sweet - I was just looking at this very stretch of highway on maps for directions to drive over the next couple of weeks. I love the stratified color show here with the clean whites on the aspen trunks.

I appear to be traveling in that area the wrong time of year 'cuz I'd sure like to be eyeballing scenes like this one.

There will be much less traffic when you'll be there, Alan. We've been getting a number of Spring snowstorms, though I don't know what that corner of the state has been getting. Just keep an eye on the weather/road closures.

There's a storm that will roll through a week from tomorrow that I will be keeping a very careful eye on. It may interrupt my stay down in the Bisti. Aspen country is going to get snow.

Hey Jim,

What a nice color pallet! The smaller trees on the right give just enough visual weight to keep this balanced. The green pine really work well to break up the larger blocks of yellow and red.

Fall scenes like this are sometimes frustrating because the best places are near a roiad with no pull out. But you found a agreat one here.

That can often be the case Ben, but not on this road. It has a nice wide shoulder on both sides for miles and miles. So it's really easy to pull off and shoot. I am glad you liked this.

In a place where yellows dominate, the patch of red definitely grabs the attention. Nicely framed.
