Cottonwood Wash

[Jordan Marsh]

I shot this in Cottonwood Wash while in Capital Reef. The hikes off Notom-Bullfrog are some of my favorite in all of Utah and I've always liked the old pines on this particular hike. It took me a while to figure out how to compose this since I wanted that tree in the upper right corner somehow to balance things out, but I'm pretty happy out it turned out. Sad to see quite a bit of rock graffiti this year though so hopefully it doesn't get out of control there.

I have been up that road a few times, but have not done any hiking, looks like I need to fix that. This is a a very nice image.

As for the graffiti over the last 2 years there seems to be so much more of that. My best guess is it’s Social Media getting more people to go out to places they normally never went in the past, and these people just don’t have the same respect for nature or others like those of us who have appreciated the outdoors for many years now. It’s super sad no matter the reason.

Thank you Jim. Social Media for sure plays into a lot of this kind of behavior, I think more so that it's made people more narcissistic. I forget what the canyon is outside of Hanksville where they filmed a little bit of 127 Hours but that place is a sad sight.

Thanks Mike. Yeah I guess I could have phrased that different, even 1 spot is too much. Bad behavior promotes more bad behavior. There was about 5 different spots that people has scrawled on the rocks. Some pretty massive writing too.
