Shooting at the Devils Postpile in California. A very unique and strange place, there was a bit of clouds to help soften the light, and a polarizer was essential here in knocking the glare off the rocks.

Oh man, does that bring back memories. I was 14 when I first went on a backpack to Rainbow falls with the YMCA and of course we saw Devils Post pile.

I have always been amazed by the hexagonal shapes, it was like they were factory produced. That first one is a great look at the way they are everywhere. The second almost looks like paving stones.

Interesting place with some fascinating geology. The close up looks like they are pavers I could buy at Home Despot.

What times of year are best for visiting that site? My one time through that area was in mid April and the roads were closed.

We used to camp at Red's Meadow or hike up to Minaret, Garnet, 1000 Island and places in between, every summer. I miss it a lot so these mean a lot to me! Nicely done!

The first does a really nice job of blending the basalt with the environment. I loved walking across the "tiled roof" you show in the second. Very nice.
