Down the Flume

Dean and I toured the Adirondack Mountain Reserve a couple of weeks ago; we hiked the trail along Gill Brook, where there's a classic image that shoots up at the Flume, a nice set of falls with a good drop between some steep rocks. This year, the dry August and September reduced the flow considerably, so we set up at the top of the flume and shot down the Flume, emphasizing the nicely lit, textured rocks.

I like the leaf lined pathway in the comp and the low water flows make a nice delicate accent to the scene. A good occasion for the really long shutter speeds.

Hey Bart,

What a cool view you got. Too bad there wasn't more water, but this still makes for a very pleasing shot.

Thanks all, I've seen that site so many times with full water, so this was a rare opportunity to stand on the rock to shoot. The light, mono-color and texture display well in print, and I'll be revisiting this winter to see what snow or ice may add.
