"EAST COAST SUNRISE ~ WEST COAST SUNSET ~ ON THE SAME DAY!"
When I was making travel plans for our recent trip to Cuba, I decided to attempt something that I tried three years ago, but it did not work. This was due to a flight leaving the gate 45 minutes late.
My daughter, Leslie, and I returned from Havana to Miami and went to Miami South Beach for a couple of nights. The plan was to get up early on our travel day and go shoot sunrise at the beach with one of the uniquely designed lifeguard stands in the foreground. Then top off our suit cases and head for Miami International Airport and jump on a non-stop flight to Los Angeles International. My wife, Jan, picked us up at LAX and we went up to the Santa Monica Pier to shoot sunset. We were able to get there early enough to sit in a restaurant on the pier and grab a quick meal. At the Santa Monica Pier there were not any clouds in the sky and there was a multitude of people standing between my camera and the composition I was hoping to capture with the Ferris Wheel prominent in the scene. As soon as the sun went just below the horizon the people on the beach started to leave. The horizon had a beautiful band of orange glow, so I went and stood in the water and kept shooting the far extension of the Santa Monica Pier. I am much happier with those shots than the images I captured with the Ferris Wheel lit up, but a hoard of people in the scene.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
East Coast sunrise at Miami South Beach and West Coast sunset at the Santa Monica Pier. ON THE SAME DAY!
