Elephant Seals at Piedras Blancas

Last weekend on my birthday run up to Pismo Beach for world famous Clam Chowder I ended up going up to test out the new Tamron 150-600mm G2 at the Elephant Seal gathering at Piedras Blancas just north of San Simeon which is at the bottom end of Big Sur in California.

The light was getting low as it was close to sunset, which gave some nice golden casts. It was fun shooting the seals as there were lot's of patterns with the seals but also some action going on too with them.

Both of these are shot at 600mm

Thanks Alan. It looks like it will be good for that. I do feel like I am carrying around a bazooka though when it's fully zoomed out. It's not a small lens by any means, and quite the change in size from my normal landscape lenses.

I like seeing what that Sigma 150-600 can do (as I have a version of it myself - is yours the Contemporary or the Sport version?) Both shots are nice, with the 2nd being seriously fun. Those guys look like they are wanting some of that clam chowder too! (Rats, now I want some clam chowder!!!)

I bought that lens for dipping my toe into the Wildlife shooting pool too, but as of yet have not had as much chance to work it out as I would have liked. I will follow your results keenly though to see how you get on with it. I also bought a gimbal head to use with it, which I think will improve my technique and results as well, once I get some usage on the combo.
