Endless Mountain Layers

From Sunrise last weekend in the Smokies. For me there are not many places that really work for sunrise i the Smokies, I usually prefer to make my way to a creek or waterfall. But when showing someone that park that has not been there, I try to give them the grand tour. So Oconaluftee Overlook is a classic view that showcases the great layers of the mountains. Mother Nature blessed us with some great light too.

I agree, this spot can be hit or miss, it really needs that softer directional light to work...

Thanks Jim. This is cropped down from 2:3 down to 2:1 as it is, and I didn't really want to loose the light transition at the top. I cropped it as shown to eliminate the hot spot on the upper left where the light was coming through a really thin hole in the clouds. I did shoto a few frames with a longer lens, and I like those comps as well, but the light wasn't as good in them.

Very beautiful, Travis. I've only been to the Smokies once -- to get the 2017 solar eclipse; didn't get to do much of anything else -- but I'm really looking forward to another visit. Seeing something like this would be fantastic.
