Oh man Steve! Love the timing on these, truly love it!

The movement of #1 and 3 gives the birds a real sense of personality, like they are kids just skipping through the water.

The timing of #2... amazing to see that edge of the water right there in front of the bird.

The water spray in #4 is great and the water splash in #5 is awesome.

Since I saw your video tutorial I can see how these are all those low angle shots you were demonstrating. I don't shoot birds hardly at all, but I know now that when I do, I need to get down on my knees!

For those who want a little background on how Steve captures great bird shots like these check out this tutorial Steve was kind enough to submit here. http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?articles/10-tips-for-photographing-birds-at-the-beach.40/

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone :) And thanks for the featured post too :)

@Jim - Thanks - The one with the edge is why I tell people to shoot in short bursts during peak action. When I saw the wave, I ripped off about 5 shots on the D850 and this one was my favorite (and, as an interesting note, none of the other shots were even close for wave position).

@ Mike - I think the cormorant might be my favorite too. He was all wet and trying to get away from some other people at the beach, but couldn't take off. So, he ended up running back to the water like that. Fun stuff.

Great shots Steve!

These are the best because in each one you have their personality and interaction with their surroundings. The waves in two and five that split second before contact are brilliant!
