Flock Attack

I was quietly sitting along a water break in Newport Beach and sudden I saw these flock of birds coming towards me. I hardly had time to focus and then they were passing me by. I love birds but I really have a hard time just getting a clear shot. And I am still learning how to shoot them so comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

This is a really good looking shot. Maybe some of the guys who shoot birds a lot will have a suggestion or two, but this looks great to me.

Looks like brown pelicans. If you watch, they often circle around and you can get prepared for another shoot.

Thanks Ben. I keep this in mind and next time I will wait patiently for them to circle around.

Thanks you all for the nice comments.

You can tell, if they seem headed someplace, they will not return soon, but if you see them flying in a big circle, they are in an updraft and working for altitude. They can get pretty high pretty fast this way. Also, if over water, they fly close to the water and are essentially herding fish below the surface for pick up in their beak.

Thanks for the tips Ben. Hopefully the next time I go to the beach I'll be able to catch some flying close to the water.
