Flowering Mazanitas

Hi y'all

Mazanita is a common evergreen plant in North America, I have paid no more than a few passing glance on the hiking trails. Last week I went to Mt Shasta area for a quick trip, it was the first time I saw so many flowering manzanitas; perhaps it was due to the record rain?

I stopped by the road side to take a picture while battling huge swamp of mosquitos.

Enjoy.

Oliver

PS: I did some online search, that was "Louis Edmounds Mazanitas" perhaps.

Hey Oliver. I have seen these in bloom before, but never quite so many blooms as this. Great job stopping and capturing this.

Is this an IR image, Oliver? Manzanita flowers are usually white with a soft pink edge to the petals. I agree with Jim that I have never seen so many plants in one place.

Hi Doug, this was taken on my way to McCloud falls near Mt Shasta. Usually the manzanita flowers are white, however, those on the high altitue has more pinkish tone, I wonder if it has anything to do with the pine forest. It was very bright pink I have never seen before.
