Our Focus this Friday is on the Milky Way! Being as this is Milky Way Week, perhaps some of you have been out shooting the Milky Way, I know I hope to get out and capture it tonight. But please post either current or past shots of the Milky Way. Add them to this thread.

I will start out with a few of mine from Joshua Tree that I took last year.

Here's a version of the scene I shot with Jim in Joshua Tree that I haven't shared here. The foreground lighting is from the setting Moon and my camera was set up in the portrait orientation. I blended the lighting from that with the scene in the background shot that was taken later.

And of course the full arch of stars over Half Dome taken from Glacier Point.

This is not a really good milky way because clouds rolled in but I did manage to capture a lone meteor above Courthouse Butte.

That’s cool Bob. You got a whisper of a Milky Way in this. I like your result even if the Milky Way isn’t as prominent as you might have hoped.

Well as an astrophotographer I am sad to admit I have nothing on the level of many of these excellent captures. Yet. I will be refocusing my efforts on getting some excellent Milky Way images this summer I think. But what great images, this is a tour-de-force of MW shooting by the FocalWorld faithful! Really impressive stuff!

Picking out some of these to comment more on. These 2 are very special, partially for what you didn't do, as I find very natural exposures and colors that you have rendered in your images to really make for a great look. The foreground exposure and detail matches up very well with the sky leaving neither looking overcooked in any way. Great results Jim.

Great results Kyle,

Some dramatic lighting both from Mother Nature and yourself, make these pop.

There are some fantastic MW shots on this page that put my humble addition to shame.

Mt. Rainier with faint MW
Jim,

Hard to go wrong with a foreground object like that :) Super result, and shows that every Milky Way image does not have to have a ton of Milky Way detail in it to really still shine! here the mountain and the sky really add great interest and color to the image.

I love this - the fortuitous meteor is icing on the cake, but even without that, the wonderful light and the mysterious clouds add quite a bit to the composition for me.

Hey Ben!
Me and Utah are so far apart, i wish, but no.
This is a local landmark, with no name, me and Levy named it "The Pringles Peak", since it is not on the maps.
:)
Thank you for the kind comment.
