It can be a problem when spelunking in caves full of hundreds of bats - when I went spelunking in the Philippines, guides would remind our group about using headlamps or cameras. I think they said that it could startle a bat carrying a baby and cause a commotion, and that the baby could panic, let go, and fall.during the day they hang out under these leaves - we saw some flying around at night but impossible to photograph much too fast and small - and I did not shine a bright light the guide used a very low light flash light to point it out -
