GNP Day Zero - Going to the Sun Road

Upon arriving to Glacier at roughly noon, we drove the Going to the Sun Road as my son has a friend who lives in the Whitefish area. It would serve as our last real bed before setting out to Bowman Lake to start our adventure. At his friend's house, we were able to make final decisions on what to pack or leave behind, load up our packs and be ready for the morning and the next six days.

On our way there, we enjoyed the trip across the park, stopping along the way. While the haze/smoke from wildfires was evident, it was not as bad as it had been the previous days (so I am told). While not ideal lighting conditions (midday), the views were fantastic and the crowds small since we were past Labor Day. Some of these images were a struggle to process due to haze, harsh shadows from the midday sun. I had a polarizer on my 24-205/4 lens and my limited experience using a polarizer made processing a bit more laborious.

Anyway, here are a few images from Day Zero!

Hey Bob, I am just heading out the door to go watch an Angels Baseball game, so I will comment more later. But I just wanted to say that these look really awesome. What a great first day in Glacier!

Beautiful shots and no the haze isn't that bad at all. The Hidden Lake shot looking west shows the most smoke haze in the distance but that's not all that uncommon as you look west from the continental divide. I like the Hidden Lake shot looking east.

One of my favorite parks although my past few visits were all in a 25' RV and they wouldn't allow me to drive up to Logan Pass. The only way I could get up to Hidden Lake was via the shuttle bus.

Bob, these are beautiful shots. Do you know when they get the snow in the winter?

Bob,
These are all really nice. The Pano of Macdonald, St, Mary’s View and HIdden lake stand out for me with HIdden being my favorite. You do have some nice light in that one and I love the way the blue glacial water is set off by the green.
Regards,
Dean

I ended up seeing these all in reverse day order - no matter, this is another great set. Only been to GNP once and unfortunately the time we had to go was when GTTS Road was closed. These sure reinforce our plans to get back again when that road is open!

Thanks Mike. This was my first visit to GNP. My son has been there four previous times but he said this was the first time he has seen it in sunshine! An omen for our trip for sure!
