Horsehead and Flame in Hydrogen Alpha

Took a quick imaging session tonight.

Most of the winter targets are setting in the west early, so there is limited time for imaging them now before they hit the treeline.

This is just one hour (12, 5 minute exposures) using a narrow band Hydrogen Alpha filter. This filter REALLY brings out the dust detail in the Horsehead. I plan on imaging atleast another hour tomorrow to build on this.

I need to pick up an OIII filter so that I can do Hubble Palette imaging. That will be my next purchase (when I save up some more money )

Those little glass filters sure const an arm and a leg.

yes imaging in narrowband on an object that radiates at that wavelength really works well, and yields great contrast and detail even with the moon up. You have a great stand-alone H-a image already - or something ready to be paired with other filters to get some color into it. Great result!
