Huge Prominence on sun 10-2-21

Amazing image of that prominence. I like the view of the various patterns on the face of the sun as well.

Is it the case that activity like the spot in the 2 o'clock position on the face of the sun also sport prominences that we just can't see because of the angle?

Thanks Alan, the prominences show up as darker streaks when looking head on, they call them filaments, It is pretty cool to watch the sunspots when they come to the edge of the sun you can see how the plasma reacts. Check this one out. Sun 10-29-14 photo - Chuck Pavlick photos at pbase.com

Chuck,

Really amazing stuff! It is interesting to see the detail in that, what is your frame rate and resolution you were running on the 1600? Did you colorize this or is it through some RGB filters? Guessing it is colorized? Great work - really enjoy these, especially the link to the largest version.

Thanks Mike, resolution is 1760x1760, that fits the whole disc without a lot of wasted area of black, this produces a faster frame rate. I don't remember what the frame rate is. This is 75%of 150 frames. I only use the Luminance filter and add false color in photoshop using levels for each color. This is the best way of producing a color image without using the color filters. The mono cameras work the best on Ha solar images. I tried it with the ASI 224mc and I don't get good results on the sun.

Chuck,

Good info, thanks. I can research the frame rate given the resolution. Interested, since I do have the identical camera. Great results on the coloring.

When using a barlow or powermate on my solar images with the 1600 I get strange banding. I do not get this with the DMK 21 au618. I think it is from the glass in front of the sensor. I have no glass in front of the sensor on the DMK. This is only noticeable when setting gain and exposure for detail on disc. I don't see it if just getting the prominences.
