Hummingbird Clearwing

A local pond was a site for some interesting macro work yesterday. As I was shooting some bees on the flowering Silver Willow I noticed a much larger flyer moving about the bush. It only landed for a few seconds before it flew away and I never saw it again. This is not a great shot but it was all I was able to get and I had never seen a Hummingbird moth before. They seem to have a very long proboscis for accessing the flower nectar. iNaturalist has identified it as a Humminbird Clearwing.

I can see why its called a Hummingbird Clearwing since it is acting just like a hummingbird in this shot. Cool you were able to get this capture.

Wow Trent! These flying insects can move so fast, it’s awesome you were able to get a shot of it at all in what sounds like a fleeting moment.

I like what you captured, and of course now it gives you a new target to keep your eyes open for.

they are not easy to shoot. I've only seen them twice and came away with bad results. it's a very cool find and good job on it.
