Huntington Beach Creek

There isn't really a Huntington Beach Creek. The beach here is known for it's miles of totally flat beach spreading out both north and south of the pier. The recent storms though went and tossed a bunch of sand up on the beach, and then incoming tides are now flooding in behind the sand and then found a spot to flow back through creating this illusion of a creek.

It is a really unusual sight, though I am sure it's happened before, it's for sure not common. So when I was there 3 days ago, I jumped at composing this. I took this with a 1/5th of a second shutter speed to smooth out the water just a bit. This was taken late afternoon, not too long before sunset.

I love playing around with flows like on flat beaches. They reconfigure with each tide cycle so they never look the same. The shutter speed is perfect.

Thanks Alan. These type of flows do seem pretty common place up in Oregon and Washington, but down here, this is pretty rare, so I was excited to see it.

The flow patterns of the water as well as the sand patterns are really interesting and the shutter choice is perfect for the water flows.

This looks like a lot of run off water from the hillside.

I appreciate that Jameel! I was also drawn to the patterns in the sand and positioned myself a bit based on those too.

I was at the beach with family, so I didn't have my normal water shoes and pants on. So every 3 or 4 minutes I had to move as the water would circle behind me and flood where I was standing there with several inches of water.

nice creek! as alan said, the shutter speed is perfect for this.
I appreciate that. I chose that shutter speed as I wanted the foreground water to smooth out to give it the feeling of motion, but if I had gone with too long of a shutter speed the waves in the background would have turned to mush. So it was a purposeful choice.
