I Love the Heart Nebula

The Heart Nebula (SH2-190) is a pretty cool nebula. With color cameras it comes out all red and ready for Valentines Day! :)

This is a neat nebula in that I think it's always up in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. Maybe one of the more experienced astro guys can correct me if I am wrong. But it seems like every time I go out to image, it's there. It's a bit faint, so when I was using my DSLR it was a bit hard to capture. I was able to, but it took a lot of processing to bring it out from the background. Now with the ASIAir 2600mc Pro astro camera, the Heart Nebula is a lot easier to be seen and captured.

This is not all that good, I didn't get a lot subs on this, I don't recall now why I didn't, but this is like only about 15 subs of 120 secs each. So really minimal integration time, but with that said I am really amazed just how well the detail came out with so little time on it. It's one of those that I need to stop and spend all night imaging so I can really get some integration time. Who knows, maybe next week. :)

Thanks Ben!

I am not there yet. I am finally getting to that point. At first, it's so tempting to want to shoot as many things as possible at night because they all look so cool and amazing! I would have a hard time getting 45 mins of data before I was off and shooting something else at night. :)

Nice work jim, I made it a point when I went out to a dark site I would get at least a hour of data on each subject if I could. You can also add to it next time you go out.

Jim - very nice for a short integration time. It is a wonderful target with just more and more detail the longer the focal length.

@Ben Egbert - 1 night? That is short for me, I like to get between 10 and 20 hours of data at least, usually spread over 3 or 4 nights or so. :)

I hear you Chuck! :)

I am still so new to this, being that disciplined to shoot the same object on multiple nights might be above where I am at. It would probably help if I was using fixed scopes instead of a camera lens that can zoom and isn't always 100% set to where I had shot a previous time. Though.... I do have a notebook where I write down every imaging session and what I captured, and what focal length I had the lens at. It makes it so much easier to remember later on.

Thanks so much!
