Joshua Tree National Park - Arch Rock - #32- Stars

Hey Guys,

I am attaching one of the many pictures I took at Joshua Tree National Park- Arch rock this past weekend. I haven't had much time to edit all of them so I thought I would post one for the community.

It was a pleasure meeting some of you guys out there by the Arch Rock. Thanks to Jim Fox I have now joined the forum.

This picture was taken with a Nikon D5500 and a Sigma 10-20mm 1:3.5 DC HSM. Edited on LightRoom.

Welcome Michel!

It was awesome to meet you out at Arch Rock, we sure had a great time. It was awesome that despite being over a dozen of us out there everyone just had a fun time, and we all got to try out some different types of light painting like this shot.

This one turned out really well, the light was just enough to not blow out any highlights, and it adds an interesting human element to this Milky Way over the Arch shot.

Hi Michel,

Welcome to the forum! The processing of the Milky Way is quite natural looking and the way it follows the arch is quite nice. My only nit is the small cut off rock on the right side. I think cropping it out would strengthen the image.

Hey Tim! Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, I did not think of cropping out the image, my head was not working properly at almost 1am but I will def give it a try on my end and see how it looks.

I processed the image a couple of times until I was finally satisfied. I had the most difficulty on deciding the temperature of my linear gradient on the sky.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Very nice way to introduce your work. Welcome. Very interesting twist on the light for this scene. I like Tim's suggestion for the right side crop.

Good work. I can only imagine the challenge it may be shooting that rock 7 days before or after a new moon during the MW season. I photographed it as well about 2 weeks ago, but early morning twilight.

Was a pleasure to meet both you AND Jim. What a well exposed photo. I have so much to learn about astrophotography. You all made the night so much fun.
