Laguna Glow

I met up with @J. M. Livingston a couple of weeks ago in Woods Cove in Laguna Beach. The clouds weren't looking to give way to any color, but at the last minute the sky opened up and gave way to a really nice display of color that wouldn't end. It seemed like the color would never stop, and we walked away while there was still color because it was simply too dark.

This shot was in the beginning of when the sky opened up a bit.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

PS. We met up because there was a listing in the Meetup forum, so make sure to check that forum and to also list your own meetups.

Beautiful light, sky and reflections. The receding wave makes a great foreground.Reply

Very nice Jim - I like both the wet line from prior waves for the reflections and the incoming water in motion with your shutter speed.

The colors are great and the sweep from lower left to upper right is perfect. I especially like the half circle of water lower left with the pinwheel effect of the foam.

Lovely light that reflects in the water combined with the way the water flows into the beach makes this a wonderful image.

Hey Jim,

This does an excellent job showcasing the importance of shutter speed choice. It looks like Orange County marine layer doesn't prevent sunsets with the same regularity as the Bay Area :)

Thanks so much Tim!

Yeah, the marine layer up north reminds me much more of the Oregon and Washington state marine layer where when it's socked in, it's socked in. Down here, that's not the case. In fact it can often be clear in Long Beach and then socked in at Laguna Beach with Huntington Beach being a middle area that gets the broken clouds (marine layer) most often. So it's just watching the weather to help pick which beach to shoot at to try and get that middle break up area.
