Lens Test

When I was deciding between the Nikon 200-500 and the Sigma 150-600 I had both with me and traveling around. This one was one of the few shots I actually took with the Nikon 200-500mm before deciding on the Sigma. If I'd had unlimited funds I would have kept both.

I don't like postings with man made stuff normally, but this bird seems just right to me!

Me too, would love to see shots from the Sigma. I am torn between the Sigma & the Tameron as I can't afford the Nikon . Gorgeous shot of that guy!

Superbly sharp pic, Craig. I think the stunning bird is well set off by his man made perch. It's good that such an ugly object can provide a service to such gorgeousness, if you see what I mean!

This is all about having great light and a cooperative model! It was way out beyond La Sal, and I had everything locked down on my tripod, and yet he didn't fly away.

In hindsight, I possibly should have kept the Nikon too except that I already had the Nikon 80-400mm VR and this would only add another 100mm, whereas the Sigma added 200mm. Plus the Sigma is the Sigma Sport 150-600mm, not the basic one. The sport version seemed so heavy duty compared to the Nikon. Bigger front lens element, far heavier duty lens foot, and made of lead through and through.

As far as Sigma Sport comparables, I've found that lens better when it hits focus, but the miss rate is far more often than any Nikon lens I own. It's my only non Nikon lens and I try to stay with OEM gear.

Choices, choices - it's fun to have them. This last pair from the sigma are awfully nice looking images so I can see why you like it. Interesting to hear about the autofocus side of the coin.
