Lenticular Magic

This is from my one and only visit to Mono Lake a few years back. I was actually in the area shooting fall colors in the Sierra and had no plans to visit the lake. As it turned out, I was too early for the color change in many places and it wasn't a good year anyway. Thus, when a wave cloud began to form over the Mono Basin one afternoon, a change in plans was a no-brainer. As luck would have it, the atmospherics persisted through the sunset hours. It was a crazy night of shooting as photographers were racing every which way to capture the light in multiple compositions. Everyone left that night with a smile on their face!

The shoreline must have been a madhouse with everyone scrambling to get as many captures as possible. I certainly would have. That's just incredible.

What really makes it otherworldly for me is that little white cloud hovering in the middle of the chaos of color & weird tufa shapes.

Yeah, that cloud was truly bizarre it just sat there and slowly shrunk in size. I liked those tufas on the right as they kinda looked like prairie dogs sitting up and gazing at the light show.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Wow Guy, simply amazing! I have shot Lenticular clouds at Mono Lake a bunch of times, but nothing ever looked this amazing!

Awesome capture Guy!
The majestic flagship Tufa signaling to the cloud child, lay down your load and bring your watery friends.
The turquoise blue along the horizon looks a bit distracting to me.
