Lidded boxes

My friend Dave Dunkley is an accomplished wood turner. He recently finished three lidded boxes and brought them over for some photographs.
The darker two are made from Madrone burl with African Blackwood finials and the lighter one is Maple burl with a painted finial.

Gorgeous work with some seriously expensive pieces of wood. I just got home from shopping at a hardwood lumber store and these are made from the stuff I could only drool about while wandering the aisles.

Nice work with the light in capturing these pieces.

Thanks Alan.. The really sad part was he forgot about the Madrone for a few years and was only able to salvage enough to make the two boxes. African Balckwood is extremely expensive now that is for sure.
