Lilies & Prickles

I saw these sand lilies while on my run the other day and went back to photograph them. They were on the steepest, loosest part of the run, which is why I stopped to catch my breath as I was standing over them. They were the only ones there, which made them feel special. This was a focus stack. There was only 1 ant, but I left it in 2 frames as it made for an amusing, if imagined, interaction.

Next I went looking for some kinnikinnick in bloom in front of a cactus in bloom that I spotted the other day when I shot the highliners (but didn't shoot them then because there was a woman with her overly friendly dog that was prancing all around it). I didn't find the spot, but did find first a handful, then another handful of sand lilies, then they were all over the place. There were also a number of cacti in bloom. The 2nd one here was actually close to the 1st sand lilies I saw.

The ants in the first one are kind of fun. That is an awfully small lily given the pine needles behind and the diminutive ants. I love the blooms in #2 - nice details. The prickly pear in #3 looks like it's got a good start on the fruit stage.

I pretty much had to be standing on top of the lily to see it. They tend to be pretty small here. I think the fruit in #3 may be from last year.
There were others that the fruit was decidedly dry & withered.
