Local attempt at "Diamond Beach"

Really, don't try to compare to Jokulsarlon , but it's a catchy title.
One of the payoffs from the cold weather followed by high winds here. We only get the right combination occasionally -- last time was probably a handful of years ago. I didn't get my lazy butt out of bed quite early enough to catch sunrise (about 20' late), but there was a little bit of lingering color. Maybe later this week I'll be able to get there in time. I've only seen the ice this thick once (about 4" thick slabs) and it was additionally unusual in that there were only 3 places along the shore that had these piles -- usually it's all along the shore.

Kinda neat how the ice slabs got piled up like that. Reminds me of scenes around the Great Lake area during mid winter cold snaps. Where did you shoot this?

This was at the local reservoir. Saw it yesterday while walking the dog, but, of course, didn't have my camera in the car. Went back today.

Very neat effect here. Utah Lake freezes each year because it is so shallow. And during the thaw, I creates big vertical slabs out in the lake. I have never seen an opportunity for photos however.
