Caught this picture of my girlfriend's niece over the holidays. I find myself loving the challenge of capturing these 'candid portraits'. With kids, it's also physically demanding as you have to get on your knees to be at eye level with them. Used a speed light with a medium soft box to get proper exposure inside and those nice catch lights. My only regret with this shot is that f/1.8 made the right eye a bit softer than I would have liked.

Hey Nick,

This is really good! Capturing toddlers is not easy, but you did it really well here! I don't really notice the one eye being a bit softer, it's not glaring for sure and doesn't bother me. But if you wanted could you mask that eye and sharpen it separately to make it a bit sharper?

If you open it up to full resolution, it should be pretty obvious. In the (frame) left eye, the eyelashes are distinctly sharp, but they blur together in the (frame) right eye. Glad to hear it doesn't bother you though - maybe I've become too much of a pixel peeper!

Yes at f/1.8 you don't have much option for a focal point. You certainly captured the subject well, love the look...
