M31 Andromeda Galaxy

This is one of my first few images I took when I started astrophotography with a dslr. This is with the modified Rebel Xt and a william Optics FLT110 f/7 scope. I don't know what it was about this camera but it performed great on both deep sky and regular photography. I going back and processing some of my old shots because of the new software available today. I am able to get a little better noise reduction.

Did you process in Pixinsight? How does it do for a straight DSLR image?

Did you process in Pixinsight? How does it do for a straight DSLR image?

This is a HDR composition in Pixinsight. I also used HDR composition on the Orion nebula to bring out the detail around trapezium. I took 10-120 second subs 22-240 sec. and 6-360 all at 800 iso, back then cameras only went to 1600 iso. I should have taken a bunch of 30 sec. shots to get the core better. I can't believe how much noise there was compared to cameras now, especially astro cameras. This is the only time I tried this object because it came out pretty good and I went on to other objects. Since getting Topaz denoise I was able to take out more noise and make it smoother and brighten it a little. It came out good with the 6-360 sec shots.

The rebel xt would not work if using astro software to capture images using windows 7, so I sold it to someone who still used windows xp and bought another moded camera that works with later windows versions.

Thanks Mike, the Rebel xt actually took sharper pictures than the 7d that I had.
