Meteorology Monday 10/31/2022

Sorry about this being so late. Monday was my wife's birthday and I have been very busy around the house lately. The subject of this week's meteorology post is cumulonimbus clouds. This is a towering cumulus cloud that produces a lot of rain and usually lightning and sometimes hail. The image below shows all of the characteristics of this type of cloud. Notice that once the rising air that feeds this cloud eventually reaches the same temperature as the surrounding air it moves laterally forming the giant anvil at the top of the cloud. I am guessing that everyone here has some cumulonimbus clouds in their stashes so please pile on. This cloud is fifty miles away from me.

What a fun one Doug. I have one I know for sure, as it looked like the starship enterprise. Now all I have to do is find it! :)
