Milky Way at Pawleys Island

I like the first one as a unique setting for a MW image. Different from the usual out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere settings and it works quite well.

Great work for your first time Don! Photographing the Milky Way at night can take years to really perfect and hone down, but you have jumped out with a really great start here!

I like the old church in #1 as it really adds a great foreground interest. It immediately reminded me what a great foreground you scored there as when I was out shooting the Perseid Meteor shower this last week, I drove a lot of back roads between the Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree and I kept my eyes open looking for some kind of building I could use for the foreground. As great as the Grand Canyon is and the Joshua Trees of JTNP are, I was really wanting something like you got in #1, so kudo's for that.

#2 also looks pretty nice too, nice detail on the Milky Way. The sand looks nice. The plant on the left shows some blur from moving during the capture, that is really almost impossible to avoid other then not having it in the composition. You could have shot it earlier and with a faster shutter speed and blended it in, but as you know I prefer to do it in one image when possible, so I like what you got here.

Hopefully this has given you a taste for it, and we will be seeing more night time shots from you? The Milky Way is awesome, but the night sky even without the Milky Way can be so cool.

Jim , I appreciate you looking at my images in such a thorough manner. MW shots and being under the night sky is fun. Pawleys is a class 4 Bortle so was happy to be down there for new moon and get a pretty detailed capture. Thinking might have to go up towards Blue Ridge Parkway soon !
