Mineral Monday - 04/11/2022

Here are three more minerals from my collection.

Kyanite is a high temperature metamorphic mineral often mined for the production of porcelain.

Septarian Concreations form somewhat like geodes and usually contain calcite (yellowish beige) and aragonite (brown) minerals.

Amethyst from part of a Brazilian Geode.

This is a special specimen with Quartz, Pyrite, and Sphalerite from a famous locality in Peru that I found in some old mineral specimens in a rock shop. They didn't know what they had so I got it for an exceptional price.

Another neat installment from your collection. #1 I have never seen before - amazing. #2 is something else I have never seen before and I love that one. The last one from Peru is seriously cool.

Incredibly beautiful Doug. I assume from reading past posts you are or were a geologist and earth science teacher. My dad who has long sine passed was also a geologist (Missouri School of Mining) and high school earth science teacher. I have always loved rocks and minerals and seeing your images puts a big smile on my face.

Thanks for your kind comments, Dean. Yes I am a geologist and taught physical geology, environmental geology, and oceanography at a community college in Illinois. I have a Master's degree in Marine Geology and was studying for my PhD in Geomorphology when my wife had twins and I had to leave. I have a close friend who taught Hydrology at the University of Missouri, Rolla. It sounds like your dad was there before he joined the staff.
