Misty Fiddleheads

More photos using a drop of dish soap smeared around the edge of my UV filter - this was from a second session with the fiddleheads from last weekend. These are shot with my new favorite lens, the Canon 70-300mm (bought used from @Mike Lewis :)) Actually the third one is from last weekend, and as you can see the center is not sharp and vivid like the first two. I kind of prefer the blur effect there I think. C&C welcome.

All three are great, not sure I have a preferred look as they all present different feels.

#3 might be my favorite as I like the overall dream look to it. I like the sharp center in #1, but #2 would be my #2 pick, as I like the horizontal comp and how the stems extend through the whole frame while the eye is left look at the unfurled fiddlesticks.

In terms of composition, I think #2 is the most creative. Great job Amy.

Nice set, especially the first one.

Fun way to view this spring growth. I am another fan of the first in this set.
Another nod for the first one.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm with Jim's choices for the same reasons :)
I was tempted to call this thread "Fiddlesticks!" :D
I'll probably experiment more with this blurred-edge effect, I can envision a lot of applications.

Amy,

So glad the lens is working so well for you, as shown by this great set of images!

Thanks, I'm really enjoying it :) I've been discovering how great it is for close-ups like this. The long focal length and small fstop gives such a nice painterly look to the blurred backround...I've always loved doing macro (well not macro by today's standards but close-ups like these anyway) and this lens takes it to another level.
