Moon a Rising

I was up in Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite a week ago to try and shooting the Perseids Meteor Shower. Because I knew the moon was rising pretty early at night (11pm) that my odds of actually capturing the meteor shower was slim, but I figured if nothing else I would be able to get some star shots along with my wanting to test out the brand new Sigma 14mm f1.8 lens I had just gotten 2 days earlier.

I didn't see but a few meteors, but I did get some nice star shots, a couple of cool Milky Way shots also. As I was heading back after the moon rise as it was washing out too many stars, I walked across one of the streams up in the meadow and came across what looked like a nice leading line, and took a series of photos. The result is a bit different, but I like the look of it.

A couple of quick thoughts on the Sigma 14mm f1.8.

It's nice to be able to shoot at lower ISO's because of shooting at f1.8
Its a very sharp lens, the corners soften only very slightly.
It didn't get any flaring from this image.
I didn't see any bothersome Coma.
Even at f1.8 it's depth of field is still really huge.

Thanks,

Jim

Full moon landscape is something I should get out and do. I've been focused to go out on New Moon phases, that I never really thought about doing full moon.

Cool shot. Looks like the moon is sucking in the ground fog. lol.

Thanks so much Ryan! I think my favorite times are crescent to quarter moon timing. But I have gotten several really cool shots now over the last 2 years from shooting into the moon when it risings during the night. So I am hooked. :)

I really like this one. I do a lot of full moon stuff, but not often into the moon, this worked out really good.

Really nice Jim, and it's nice to get a report on the new Sigma. I'd be tempted to take a little off the top but it's sweet as is.
